This Post Makes Me Sad*

I’ve invested a *ton* of hours in The Secret World.

I absolutely *love* some many aspects of the game. Quest stories and acting is *amazing*. The work put into making this game fresh and exciting and engaging is tremendous. And it *is* fresh and exciting and amazing. I love all those parts of the game.

I love my Templar quests. I love the story quests. I love the zones.

But seriously, I’ve hit a wall.

The way the Ability Wheel and skill points system works, is just not satisfying enough. I played for *12* hours yesterday.  Almost continually, stopping to eat and play chauffeur for my kids. And in those 12 hours, I didn’t get to use a *single* new skill or ability.

This is because I have completed my first ‘deck’, and am saving for my second. It’s impossible to switch abilities and decks piecemeal, because of the way the abilities in a deck work together. So you have to save up for a complete 'switch’ before actually using any of them.  And don’t even get me started with how skill points ruin this whole idea. I can’t stop putting skill points into the weapons I’m using for my current deck, so I can’t put any into a new one for a looooooong time. The deck I am using is not one of Funcom’s 'official’ decks, but one I researched my own way to. I’m really happy with it. I can do all 'Hard’ quests without too much difficulty (unless they’re bugged - sigh) and I can do my Templar quests as soon as they appear - so I know I did a decent job with my solo deck.

But part of the attraction is to go back and try other weapons with the same character. And I played for 12 HOURS yesterday without being able to implement this. TWELVE. This is incredibly frustrating, and probably why I will pick up GW2 as soon as it comes out.

I’ll still plod along a little today, I guess, because I love so many other parts of the game, but the lack of carrots is outweighing the good.

You don’t have to stick with ONE deck. Pick up new weapons and start working on a second one. Go back to Kingsmouth and...
